Vacation!

Not just a measly day off. Actually, I do work part of the day tomorrow. Oh well. Just a few months until a heavily anticipated trip to Oakland, CA.

Football!

Don't get me wrong, I love baseball. I love my beloved Pittsburgh Pirates, but they're like a million games out of the race. I want football and don't try to give me college football. No, I want the big boys with the big hits. I think that I can last until Thursday when the Patriots will make the Raiders their bitches. Oh, that was rude. It is my personal opinion that the New England Patriots will get the best of the Oakland Raiders on Thursday evening.

On a another football note, I can't help but to cheer on the New Orleans Saints, a team that I never particularly cared for, this year. Their wide receiver Joe Horn seems to be a good guy.

Also, cheers to Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn (a player I've like since he was with my Tampa Bay Buccaneers). He challenged every NFL player (excepting Saints players) to donate $5000 to Hurricane relief.

9/2 - What I am anticipating today...

Answers!

Why were Americans left to die of thirst and starvation? Why did it take so long for the Federal government to respond? Why didn't the President tour the region on Tuesday? Why weren't those who didn't have the means to evacuate helped to leave the area before the storm? Why wasn't the National Guard ready and poised to go in to New Orleans before Katrina struck? Why did it take them days to get there?

These are just a few questions that I have. I am pissed. All week long, I have watched as Americans have been suffering on a scale that I never thought possible. My spirits have been buoyed tonight as I see so many donations being made. It has been a devastating week and now is not the time to point fingers, but let us not forget that this administration failed to respond promptly to one of the most deadly natural disasters in US history. And let us remember that those who suffered most were those that were the least capable of preparing themselves. For a nation that so many proclaim to be a Christian country... The way we treat the meekest among us is truly the opposite of true Christian philosophy.

I wait. Constantly... For the red light to turn green. For the line to move... I wait for the love of my life to show himself to me. For my career to take off... I wait for the right to marry. For my beloved country to treat my equally... I wait. You wait. We all wait. We spend much of our time waiting.

Yet, in truth, it's not just waiting. At least not for me. I anticipate. "Oh, what I will do... once this happens... once this has occured." On it's own anticipation is fine. It's good to have goals, dreams. However, I find myself in a state of "perpetual anticipation" (see the post below for the lyrics to the song (by Stephen Sondheim) that inspired this blog).

I've been wondering for quite some time as to why I would start a blog. Then it occured to me that perhaps I could use it keep myself focused. I plan on useing it to ruminate on what it is that I'm waiting for and attempting to spur myself into action. And I hope to hear from anybody who stumbles upon this humble outpost on the net. Let's inspire one another to do something, instead of waiting for it to happen.

And I'm sure that there'll be the occasional rant on anything from theatre to religion to sports to politics and much more... Thank you and welcome to "Perpetual Anticipation".
